Cesspit
A cesspit is a sealed holding tank. Wastewater stays in it until a tanker empties it, and emptying records should be kept. Bacteria and enzymes help break down organic matter and reduce odour and the crust on the surface. They do not replace emptying.
Septic tank
A septic tank is a settling tank, usually divided into two or three chambers. Solids sink, fats float to the surface, and bacteria slowly break them down without air. Pre-treated water flows to a soakaway or a further treatment stage. Sludge from the bottom is removed regularly.
Domestic treatment plant
A domestic treatment plant cleans water biologically with activated sludge aerated by a blower. Treated water is discharged according to the permit. The plant needs regular removal of excess sludge and must be run according to the manufacturer’s operating rules.
How to choose a product
Bioseptik and liquid BioSep Liquid are intended for cesspits and septic tanks. Biowaste Liquid is intended for domestic treatment plants; Bioseptik has a separate dose for treatment plants. Always follow the instructions on the pack. If the system smells or does not work properly, first rule out a technical fault.
