Where the nutrients come from

Phosphorus and nitrogen come from fish food, fish droppings, fallen leaves and dead plants. They form sludge at the bottom, which gradually releases the nutrients back into the water.

What to do first

Feed only as much as the fish will eat. Remove leaves before they decompose. Keep the filter running and leave enough aquatic plants in the pond.

The role of bacteria

A bacterial product breaks down organic matter and sludge and takes away some of the nutrients algae need. It works best in season, when the water is warmer. You can add zeolite to the filter, which binds ammonium ions.

Larger water bodies

For ponds and lakes, we distinguish between care of the water column and of the sludge at the bottom. We put the programme together according to the area, depth and water analyses.
